Camp Confidence

Our Confidence Building workshops focus on building character, confidence, and enhancing self esteem in young people.

Leadership principles & concepts are offered which youth are responsible for embracing at their individual growth levels.

As well, the Confidence Building workshops places great emphasis on continued education, pursuit of goals, dreams, & ambitions while encouraging perseverance to the end goal.

Having Their Say

In their own words our Youth tell us how they feel about their experience with Rise Above – read and see why we’re so proud of them!

What I learned from Rise Above is to write better and one thing that is very important is that I should always believe in my self.

Nancy, 7yth grade

Rise Above showed me how to improve my grades.  My plan is to study and go to after school programs like this one that teach you in a fun way.

Ashly, 7th grade

In Rise Above we made a career puzzle.  Each piece of the puzzle showed us how we can make this plan a reality.  I really liked it because I didn’t know how important other people are to your success – and we learned that also in the teamwork part.

Jessica, 8th grade

I liked the part about teamwork, courage, believing in your self.  I want to be an athlete and my coach told us this too. Thank you to all the other teachers who teach us like this like - our coaches and Rise Above.

Edgar, 8th grade

I like this program because it can make a difference in someone’s life, so I would like to see if it’s the right thing for me.

Jubilee, 9th grade

The speaker really inspired me to be even more – to become a surgeon.  After I heard him, I believe I can.

Brandy, 9th grade

This program has helped me to think about my future, my education, and my self.  I now think about the future – and I plan my work and work my plan.  I learned that from this program.

Anne. 11th grade

Our Youth speaker tried to relate to us and he succeeded.  He told us it’s important to have a ‘B’ for ‘Backup’ plan.  I would like to recommend this program to all the youth my age because we don’t think we need anything – but we need to be motivated and this program motivated me.  I will make a ‘B-Plan.

Julie, 10th grade

Today I learned a lot about a budget, and taxes, and a 401-k plan.  I never heard of these before, they don’t teach us this stuff in school!

Juliana, 9th grade

The speaker has her own business and she talked to us about wholesale licenses, in-home businesses, and how to start a business.  I like the fact that some lady that draws like crap made a business out of graphic design.  Wow - you CAN do it.

Chelsey, 11th grade

Thank you Rise Above and the speakers who came on Career day and After School Program.  I remember you from last year and I couldn’t wait to see if you would be here again this year.  I’m in the 11th grade and in case I miss you next year I recommended this to my friends.  Your program – it shows us how to achieve our goals and not just preach, you teach, thank you okay.

Ileana, 11th grade.

VOLUNTEER IMPACT STATEMENTS

The greatest part of speaking to the students is that single moment in time when I've captured their attention.  It may be a personal experience I share or one of the many anecdotes I tell, but when they get on board, you can feel the weight of their interest.  The students seem to be especially interested in personal experiences in which I've failed at something.  It really breaks down the barriers and let's them see me as just an older one of them.

Bobby Sumlar, Business Consultant

I've received so many wonderful and encouraging comments from the students I don't know who gets more out of it, me or them.  And even though I will probably never know if I've made a real difference in someone's life, therein lies the magic.  It's like planting a tree for the next generation, knowing you will not be around to see it bare fruit and yet knowing full well it is worth planting.

Eustace Franklin, Aerospace Engineer

TEACHER IMPACT STATEMENTS

Rise Above brings a lot of enthusiasm and excitement to our After School Programs.  The students are eager to participate and look forward to the many activities; it’s a really good program.

Ken Denman, Fedde Middle School

Every year I contact Rise Above to come and speak to all of my Career Planning Classes.  This is something my students must experience.  I wish we had programs like this when I was in school but more importantly I hope my students take heed to the value of this Agency.  Sheri Lewis and her group of fine professionals never disappoint.

Betty Martin, Narbonne High School
