Rise Above Youth Leadership

Background

Rise Above Youth Leadership was founded in February 1994 as a result of the low self esteem and confidence witnessed at an inner city high school in Los Angeles, CA.

In written evaluations the students expressed that having confidence in anything was difficult due to their economic conditions, poor family structure, lack of mentors/role models, & lack of discipline.

Rise Above has since grown to offer a wide array of services - at countless schools in Southern California - including more than 3,700 total students and 600 per year. The primary premise of Rise Above is to build confidence & self esteem, encourage continued education, develop mentoring relationships, and provide leadership examples via seminar type workshops. The underlying goal of Rise Above is to build strong ambitious youth as well as teach life style enrichment to teenaged parents & families.

This is made possible by workshops such as the four (4) week after school Confidence Building Workshops. Youth enroll in a seminar type workshop and are given tools such as workbooks & tapes on successful people, education, the necessity to have tenacity, perseverance & dedication to reach their goals.

The Resume "Writing & Job Referral give youth/teens experience in computer usage, drafting & writing their first resume", How to conduct themselves in an interview, how to respond to questions, and networking job referral information.
 
Our Mentoring Program matches youth with professionals of similar backgrounds who serve as guideposts and provide coaching & counseling throughout their journey.

PeaceKeepers demonstrates the power of resolving conflicts in matures & professional ways. Rise Above is continually researching new educational technologies & curricula to ensure that youth are given every opportunity to pursue & achieve their goals.
